SemiconductorsMarket cap $300B4 connections

ASML holds a complete global monopoly on EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography machines - the $400M laser systems that print the finest circuit patterns on chips. Without ASML, no one can make chips below 7nm. TSMC, Samsung, and Intel are its only customers. A single ASML EUV machine contains 100,000+ custom parts and takes a year to build. It is the most strategically critical technology company most people have never heard of.

Key relationships in depth

ASML & TSMC

ASML is the sole manufacturer of EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography machines in the world, holding over 90% of the EUV market and 62% of all photolithography equipment. TSMC is ASML's largest single customer, purchasing the majority of ASML's annual EUV machine output to manufacture chips at 7nm and below for NVIDIA, Apple, AMD, and every other advanced chip designer.

Why it matters: Without ASML's EUV machines, no chip can be manufactured below 7nm. There is no alternative supplier anywhere in the world. TSMC's process leadership, which underpins the AI chip revolution, is therefore directly dependent on a single Dutch company whose core technology took 30+ years and $9B+ in collective R&D investment from ASML, Intel, and TSMC to develop.

ASML & Intel

ASML supplies Intel with EUV and deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems for Intel's advanced node manufacturing at its fabs in Oregon, Arizona, and Ireland. Intel's IDM 2.0 strategy and its ambitions to regain process leadership depend critically on ASML's next-generation High-NA EUV machines.

Why it matters: Intel committed to purchasing the first production-ready High-NA EUV systems from ASML, priced at approximately $380M each, as part of its strategy to leapfrog TSMC and Samsung at 2nm-class nodes. ASML's equipment investment is central to Intel's multibillion-dollar fab modernization program.
