BYD is China's largest carmaker and, with Tesla, one of the two biggest electric-vehicle makers in the world. It makes its own batteries (Blade LFP cells), chips and many components, which keeps its costs low. BYD runs an EV joint venture with Toyota in China and is expanding fast in Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia. It started as a battery maker and still supplies batteries to other companies.
