Marvell Technology and Amazon Web Services have a deep strategic partnership in which Marvell designs custom silicon for AWS cloud infrastructure, including the Nitro networking cards that underpin every AWS compute instance and the cloud-optimized storage controllers in AWS storage services. AWS also uses Marvell's Graviton-compatible coherent optical transceivers for its inter-data-center fiber networks, and Marvell custom ASICs are foundational components in AWS's Trainium and Inferentia AI accelerator cards.
Why it matters: AWS's hyperscale data-center infrastructure requires networking, storage, and optical semiconductor components that are far more cost-efficient when custom-designed for AWS's specific workloads than commodity merchant silicon from Broadcom or Intel. Marvell's ability to design chips at advanced TSMC process nodes that meet AWS's power-efficiency and performance requirements has made it an indispensable custom silicon design partner for AWS's competitive infrastructure moat.
